Olympic footballs: Proudly made in Sialkot

Behind these soccer gems is the sweat and blood of hard-working rural women of Sialkot, Pakistan – an effort concealed in disguise, under a dangerous quilt of consumerism. PHOTO: AFP
Throughout the history of football world cups and other major FIFA events, the world has seen one brand deliver the most astounding soccer balls, carved to perfection and tested in adverse conditions to exceed all FIFA standards for an ‘Official Match Ball’.
Yes, we’re talking about the German brand, Adidas.
But what lies behind the Adidas logo on these soccer gems is the sweat and blood of hard-working rural women, belonging to the city of Sialkot, Pakistan – an effort concealed in disguise, under a dangerous quilt of consumerism.
Till the advent of the year 2000, Pakistan was making 75% of all the soccer balls consumed by this entire planet, making it by far, the greatest supplier of footballs in the world, marks a report by the US government. Though the market share has dropped considerably in the past decade and Pakistan’s supply share into the world market has dropped down to around 40%, its unmatched hand-stitching quality in the world keeps winning Pakistani balls a place in all major FIFA tournaments, despite the presence of heavy competitors such as China, India and Thailand.
So China may be producing more soccer balls annually through machines, it all comes down to quality over quantity, when Pakistani hand-stitched balls and Chinese machine-made balls come head to head for the big FIFA selection process.
It was in the FIFA World Cup 2010 that the Pakistani soccer ball didn’t win a place in the grand tournament for the first time in a long time, and instead, the machine-made Chinese ball, Jabulani was selected over the hand-made Pakistani predecessor, Teamgeist.
But as the tournament progressed, the Chinese Jabulani came under heavy criticism for its inaccuracy and difficulty to control and dribble, with hate pouring in from almost all the greatest boots in the game. All this forced Adidas to return to its most acclaimed soccer ball variation line ever – The Tango, bearing the ‘Made in Pakistan’ tag. So it’s been made public, the Adidas Albert is the official game ball for London 2012 Olympics, coming hand-stitched straight from the soccer-production capital of the world, Sialkot.
Tom Cleverley, the Manchester United player who unveiled the ball at City of Coventry Stadium speaks about Albert,
”The Albert certainly has a unique name and striking identity. It is like no other ball I’ve seen before and it is going to really stand out on the pitch. The ball looks youthful and that is what London 2012 is meant to be about.”
The Adidas Albert sports a sequence of triangular panels, thermally bonded together for a highly reliable trajectory in flight. A woven carcass and a novel bladder beneath the outer surface of the ball, give Albert increased air retention and minimal water uptake. To enhance the ball control, each panel is covered with a grip texture, supporting boot to ball contact. The extra striking colours on the ball are in line with the London 2012 Olympics colour palette.
The Albert is also available for public purchase as part of the merchandise on the official London 2012 Olympics online store, for a sum of £70, where clicking on the ‘Details’ tab unveils the ‘country of manufacture’ being Pakistan.
Good job Pakistan!

ALERT New NASA discovery uncovers life under Arctic ice

by www.thenewstribe.comNASA discovered that under the ice of the Arctic waters microscopic marine organisms are found in abundance.

However, researchers said it remains unclear whether such fertility could have unexpected downsides for life in the Arctic, The Christian Monitor said.
The single-celled organisms in question are known as phytoplankton, which possess the green pigment chlorophyll just as plants do, helping them live off sunlight.
Phytoplankton blooms spring up in the Arctic during the summer, when the sun is constantly above the horizon.
“As someone who has been studying polar marine ecosystems for 25 years, I had always thought that the idea of under-ice phytoplankton blooms was nonsense,” the website quoted researcher Kevin Arrigo, a biological oceanographer at Stanford University in California, as saying.
Researchers noted that the organism grows more rapidly under thick layers of ice.
“The idea that phytoplankton can not only bloom under 3-foot-thick ice but that they can reach numbers that put their open-water counterparts to shame was a complete surprise,” Arrigo told OurAmazingPlanet. “It means we have to rethink many of our ideas about how the Arctic Ocean ecosystems function.”
Kevin Arrigo of Stanford University, the leader of the ICESCAPE (Impacts of Climate on EcoSystems and Chemistry of the Arctic Pacific Environment) mission, said:
“If someone had asked me before the expedition whether we would see under-ice blooms, I would have told them it was impossible. This discovery was a complete surprise…. At this point we don’t know whether these rich phytoplankton blooms have been happening in the Arctic for a long time and we just haven’t observed them before. These blooms could become more widespread in the future, however, if the Arctic sea ice cover continues to thin.”
The ICESCAPE project’s findings were announced Thursday and published in the journal Science.

What Islam Says About Valentine Day

What Islam Says About Valentine Day :

First of all, we’d like to shed light on the origin of this festival, known as "Valentine Day" or "Festival of Love":

The Festival of Love was one of the festivals of the pagan Romans, when paganism was the prevalent religion of the Romans more than seventeen centuries ago. In the pagan Roman concept, it was an expression of "spiritual love".

There were myths associated with this pagan festival of the Romans, which persisted with their Christian heirs. Among the most famous of these myths was the Roman belief that Romulus, the founder of Rome, was suckled one day by a she-wolf, which gave him strength and wisdom.

The Romans used to celebrate this event in mid-February each year with a bi
g festival.

The connection between Saint Valentine and this festival:

Saint Valentine is a name which is given to two of the ancient "martyrs" of the Christian Church. It was said that there were two of them, or that there was only one, who died in Rome as the result of the persecution of the Gothic leader Claudius, c. 296 CE. In 350 CE, a church was built in Rome on the site of the place where he died, to perpetuate his memory.

View Of Islam:

It is not permissible for a Muslim to celebrate any of the festivals of the kuffaar. Valentines Day is an innovated festival for which there is no basis in Islam. The clear evidence of the Qur’aan and Sunnah – and the consensus of the early generations of this ummah – indicates that there are only two festivals in Islam: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Any other festivals that have to do with a person, a group, an event or anything else are innovated festivals, which it is not permissible for Muslims to observe, approve of or express joy on those occasions, or to help others to celebrate them in any way, because that is transgressing the sacred limits of Allaah, and whoever transgresses the sacred limits of Allaah has wronged himself. Many Muslims these days indulge in this filthy festival. However, they would do well to remember the famous saying of the Prophet (صلي الله عليه وسلم): “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (narrated by Ahmad, 2/50; Abu Dawood, 4021)

As regards the Islamic stance on this festival, Dr. Su`ad Ibrahim Salih, professor of Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) at Al-Azhar University, states the following:

Indeed, Islam is the religion of altruism, true love, and cooperation on that which is good and righteous. We implore Allah Almighty to gather us together under the umbrella of His All-encompassing Mercy, and to unite us together as one man. Allah Almighty says: (The believers are naught else than brothers. Therefore make peace between your brethren and observe your duty to Allah that haply ye may obtain mercy.) (Al-Hujurat 49: 10) Focusing more on the question in point, I can say that there are forms of expressing love that are religiously acceptable, while there are others that are not religiously acceptable. Among the forms of love that are religiously acceptable are those that include the love for Prophets and Messengers. It stands to reason that the love for Allah, and His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) should have the top priority over all other forms of love. Islam does recognize happy occasions that bring people closer to one another, and add spice to their lives. However, Islam goes against blindly imitating the West regarding a special occasion such as Valentine’s Day. Hence, commemorating that special day known as the Valentine’s Day is an innovation or bid`ah that has no religious backing. Every innovation of that kind is rejected, as far as Islam is concerned. Islam requires all Muslims to love one another all over the whole year, and reducing the whole year to a single day is totally rejected. Hence, we Muslims ought not to follow in the footsteps of such innovations and superstitions that are common in what is known as the Valentine’s Day. No doubt that there are many irreligious practices that occur on that day, and those practices are capable of dissuading people from the true meanings of love and altruism to the extent that the celebration is reduced to a moral decline.

scientists of japan successfull in making Avatar robot

ARTICLE BY GEO TV MUFTPAKISTAN
YOKOHAMA: A Japanese-developed robot that mimics the movements of its human controller is bringing the Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar" one step closer to reality. Users of the TELESAR V don special equipment that allows them not only to direct the actions of a remote machine, but also to see, hear and feel the same things as their doppelganger android. "When I put on the devices and move my body, I see my hands having turned into the robot hands. When I move my head, I get a different view from the one I had before," said researcher Sho Kamuro. "It's a strange experience that makes you wonder if you've really become a robot," he told . Professor Susumu Tachi, who specialises in engineering and virtual reality at Keio University's Graduate School of Media Design, said systems attached to the operator's headgear, vest and gloves send detailed instructions to the robot, which then mimics the user's every move. At the same time, an array of sensors on the android relays a stream of information which is converted into sensations for the user. The thin polyester gloves the operator wears are lined with semiconductors and tiny motors to allow the user to "feel" what the mechanical hands are touching -- a smooth or a bumpy surface as well as heat and cold. The robot's "eyes" are actually cameras capturing images that appear on tiny video screens in front of the user's eyes, allowing them to see in three dimensions. Microphones on the robot pick up sounds, while its speakers allow the operator to make his voice heard by those near the machine. The TELESAR -- TELexistence Surrogate Anthropomorphic Robot -- is still a far cry from the futuristic creations of James Cameron's "Avatar", where US soldiers are able to remotely control the genetically engineered bodies of an extra-terrestrial race they wish to subdue. But, says Tachi, it could have much more immediate -- and benign -- applications, such as working in high-risk environments, for example the inside of Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, though it is early days. "I think further research and development could enable this to go into areas too dangerous for humans and do jobs that require human skills," he said. Japan's famously advanced robot technology was found wanting during the crisis at Fukushima, where foreign expertise had to be called on for the machines that went inside reactor buildings as nuclear meltdowns began. Tachi said a "safety myth" had grown up around atomic technology, preventing research on the kind of machines that could help in the wake of a disaster. But he said his kind of robot technology could help with the long and difficult task of decommissioning reactors at Fukushima -- a process that could take three decades. A remote-controlled android that allows its user to experience what is happening far away may have more than just industrial applications, he added. "This could be used to talk with your grandpa or grandma living in a remote place and deepen communications," he said. (AFP) AFP

what Imran needs to do to bring a CHANGE?

what Imran needs to do to bring a CHANGE? by MUFTPAKISTAN

Imran Khan is the future of Pakistan, and there is no shred of doubt about that. HOpe is here and that burning hope is due to the promises of change which Imran Khan has brought to the table. No force on this earth can stop Imran Khan from coming to the power, Allah willing.
Imran Khan and his PTI team must understand that people of Pakistan from every walk of life have tied up all their hopes and dreams and wishes with him. They are waiting for change. Imran has to make sure that he doesn’t disappoint the nation, because it would be the end, as there is no one else behind, and people doesn’t want another round of political shenanigans.
So what Imran needs to do to bring that CHANGE?

View Why I CHOOSE IMRAN KHAN ??
  • He must refrain from using abusive language for the opponents. He must ignore them.
  • He must come out with facts, figures and a complete workable program as how he intends to eliminate the load shedding of gas and power from Pakistan and in how much time estimate.
  • He must table his policy regarding Taliban, drone attacks and all this war.
  • How he intends to turn around the economy of the Pakistan.
  • How would he create harmony among the provinces and the different ethnic and religious groups?
  • How would he change the thana and court culture?
  • How would he reconstruct and improve the patwar khana and land records.
  • Would he toe the establishment line, or would he work with them, or would he confront them?
  • What’s his media policy?
Imran Khan must understand that unless and until he addresses the above points, people would soon loose the attraction of his slogans. I am a true well-wisher of him and his party as I have been with them throughout, but I seriously think that its about time that PTI let us know the direction on above points, as we are getting disillusioned and bit confused.

11 TIPS ON HOW TO IDENTIFY A FAKE PHONE AND AVOID GETTING SCAMMED

10 TIPS ON HOW TO IDENTIFY A FAKE PHONE AND AVOID GETTING SCAMMED

How many times is it that you buy a product and it turns out that product was fake one (or a Chinese version of the original) or maybe it was a used unit?
Well it happened with my friend thrice and another time to me. Unfortunately it is becoming a common practice these days, especially in a country like Pakistan where lot of products are not officially sold by manufacturers themselves.
Experience teaches a man a lot and it did teach me several things, which I am sharing with you:
  • 1. See reviews and pictures of the product online. Believe me this is really helpful especially in case of devices like iPhone 4S (as there is almost no difference in the design of 4S and its predecessor iPhone 4).
  • 2. See the back of the device and logo carefully. The placement of LED Flash and ports on the side of device carefully. Their location might be changed. But the most important thing is the logo. In most cases, it might be cleverly written to like look the original. But upon careful inspection, differences might appear. Instead of NOKIA, it might be NOKTA or N0KIA (N ZERO OKIA) or APPlE instead of APPLE.
  • 3. And here comes a very weak spot, the camera. The camera of these cheap devices take very blurred pictures and they does look cloudy. The videos too are nothing short of portable earthquakes. The icons of the camera interface might be changed too.
  • 4. Check the OS carefully. It might not be so smooth as your dream phone. You might’ve known that upon pressing the home button in iPhone, icons seem to flow back to the screen. This little animation and other things might not happen in fake phones.
  • 5. Memorize the specs carefully. No, not all. But do check whether the device you’re buying is dual-sim/micro-SD card/micro-sim card supported. Ask the shopkeeper about these specs. This really can help you.
  • 6. Don’t be shy. If you’re buying a device worth thousands, you’ve every right to ask ANY question from the retailer. Also notice the face of the retailer upon asking the originality of the device.
  • 7. Check the device for any physical damage. A lot of shopkeepers do sell used devices after replacing physically damaged parts.
  • 8. Check the retail box. Check the charger. Check whether the box really looks like the retail box of original phone.
  • 9. Take a look at the pre-installed applications. Are they the same? Do they have the same interface? A lot of fake phones have applications that have similar logos like the original ones but they aren’t completely same.
  • 11. Browse the web. No it does sound awkward but it will help. Iphone, Android, WP7 and Meego have brilliant browsers. Fake ones might not be so smooth. And then shock the retailer by accessing the online software store. Its not THAT helpful but if your device is a fake one, it may not be able to access the store.
These all may require you to do a bit of a research of the device you’re about to buy on the web. But the hard work always pays off and you will get the thing you deserve. Best of luck!

Environmental Outlook Of Pakistan in the Next Few Decades

Topic by MuftPakistan/Sidrah Zaheer Environmental Outlook Of Pakistan in the Next Few Decades

According to many environmental experts, after almost twenty years, the glacial melt-water will be coming to an end and the total flow of the Indus system would also decrease to half. This whole loss of water will be in three rivers in Pakistan that will have devastating effects on the country’s agricultural production and hence its economy.

To change this harsh scenario for Pakistan in the next twenty years, the government must do something sufficient to take control of the situation. This would be the environmental reality of Pakistan that will certainly affect the country.

But in terms of Pakistan’s GDP growth rate, currently it is 6 per cent, it will have a GDP of $436 billion in 2030 and the per capita income would only be around $1800. With major part of the country’s budget given to military expenditures, it would be spending millions of dollars on militarisation by 2030. This will lead to slow growth rate of development in economy and a poor graph performance on literacy rate.

To take responsibility and to manage Pakistan’s natural resources, it is important that the government takes action now. Planning for a better future which will not only be environmentally secure but also politically viable, the experts should be paid heed to in the policy making circles. Already the region of South Asia is of global strategic importance to the superpowers.
